コメント: APOCALYPSE 3Dxは、NECとVideo Logicが共同開発した最新3DチップPCX2を搭載。
性能的にはSGLを使用した3Dソフトは抜群に速いが、Direct3DではまだVooDooに遅れを取っているようだ。
D3DTESTではVooDooを抜いているが、D3DTESTを速くするようなプログラムが組まれているらしい。
またD3Dをフルサポートはしていないようだ。

添付ゲームソフトとしてMECH WARRIOR 2,Tomb Raider,WipeOut 2097,Ultim@ate Race,Terracideが同梱されている。

PCX1を使用した2D/3DアクセラレーターAPOCALYPSE 5Dも発売しているので、PCIに余裕にない人や相性が気になる人には朗報となる。

国内では一番売れているVooDoo採用3Dカード。
他のD3D対応カードと違い、ネイティブのソフトが多いことも魅力。
もちろんD3D能力も段違いに速い。MTMベンチでは最速である。
PCXシリーズと違い、3DはMonster3Dに限らずVooDooカード自体から出力するため、2Dカードとの相性問題が比較的少ないのも魅力。
ただし、3Dを使用しないときでも一度ビデオ出力がMonster3Dを通るため、若干画質が劣化してしまう欠点もある。

なお、国内版も発売されているのだがバンドルソフトが米国版と異なるのが残念だ。また少々高価でもある。

後発だけ有りドライバーの出来は抜群で、VooDooカードNo1のスピードを誇る。
Monster3Dと同様一度ビデオ出力がRighteous 3Dを通るのだが、Monster3Dと異なり内部で物理的な切り替えを行うため、 画質の劣化が少ないという優秀なカードである。
マニアで有れば有るほど、Monster3DよりRighteous 3Dを選ぶ傾向が有るようだ。

    Video RAM Flame BufferとしてEDORAMを4MB、その他にTexture BufferとしてEDORAMを2MB搭載。
    3Dに定評あるVoodooを使用、かつ、1枚のCardに纏め、Video Cableのイモヅル接続による画質の劣化を防止、 また、3DがWindow表示可能という、(本来)画期的なカード。

    しかし、肝心の2DがタコでスピードはTrio64V+と同等かそれ以下。
    また一番の売りである3D機能も、VooDoo とVooDoo RUSHは完全互換でなく(下位互換)、VooDoo対応ゲームで動かないソフトが多い。
    これに関してはRush用パッチが有れば問題ないのだが、まだそれも出そろっていない。

    DIAMOND EDGE3Dで採用され一躍脚光をあびたNV1の後継チップ。
    もともと2D/3Dとも(当時としては)かなり速い部類に属するチップであったが、こんどのRIVA128は2Dに206MHz-RAMDACと128-bit 100MHz SGRAM &AGPバスを採用により、またもや最速クラスを実現。
    3Dに関しては高速なPERMEDIA2の100MFLOPSを遙かに凌ぐ、5GFLOPSの能力(50倍!)を持つモンスターチップ。
    D3Dに関してはVoodooすら凌ぐらしい。
    今回は悪名高かったオーディオ機能は搭載していないようだ(笑)

    ビデオ入出力機能、DVD再生支援機能内蔵。
    特筆すべきはPCIバスでAGPと同等の機能を実現する、“AGP-like Texture storage”機能だ。
    これとテクスチャキャッシング機能をもってすれば、たとえPCIでVRAMを越える容量のテクスチャを扱ったとしても高速な描画を行う事が出来る。

    現在DIAMOND MMやSTBが製品化しているが、我らがCANOPUSもRIVA128搭載PCIカードを出すそうなので楽しみだ。
